Can you protect your reputation as a Recruiter in a down economy?

I had a very concerning incident today. I received an e-mail from a candidate who I interviewed 9 months ago. The candidate made untrue accusations about how I treated him and our process. Unfortunately (for both of us it would seem) his recollection of our interaction is totally inaccurate. I happen to share a social networking avenue with this candidate and he has threatened to “out me”. Evidently what triggered his anger was my last blog post “Is your organization ensuring a positive candidate experience?” He does not feel I am qualified to speak on this topic. Of course thousands of candidates I’ve worked with in over 15 years might disagree but it only takes one person with determination to ruin what you’ve spend a career building.

Hi Mike..I feel sorry for what had happened to you. It is truly inevitable to experience things like that specially in our industry because we just don't know really what kind of people we deal with each day. We sometimes deal with people we've known for a long time, a friend or a colleague and that's good for we know them personally but sometimes we deal with complete strangers. We are looking at their profiles and resumes which might interest us for they look good, however, we can never really tell what kind of character they have inside. You said you've been in the industry for 15 years, I believe you've made a lot of friends. You were able to help them and you'd probably built a strong relationship with your clients, right? If so, then you have nothing to fear about. All these people will stand by you and they will tell the world how good you are. They are of course a lot powerful than that one person who is trying to ruin your image. Don't let him undermine you!

Regarding the current economic situation, they say "True intelligence is not measured on how much we know of what to do, but on how we behave when we do not know what to do!" - let's keep going and keep trying our best. It might be tough but we tougher, right?
